Online Casinos Lose Revenue During World Cup

Although predictions before the start of the FIFA World Cup were that online casinos might well have a rise in their income during the football tournament, the numbers have shown that this prediction was simply incorrect.

PartyGaming has released their figures for the last quarter, and are frustrated at the losses they have sustained, which seem to be as a direct result of the FIFA World Cup. Although the company’s slotsgalores.com”title=”" >online casinos have lost revenue, the greatest loss was sustained by the PartyGaming poker division, where a loss of thirteen percent has been recorded for the last quarter.

It was expected, and has been proved as true, that online sports betting sites would have an increase in revenue, which is exactly what happened. What was unexpected was the major blow to online casino revenues in general.

The Chief Executive of PartyGaming, Jim Ryan said: “The adverse impact of the World Cup on our non-sports betting verticals was slightly greater than expected.”

It seems that during this exciting football tournament, players have wanted to keep their eyes glued to the matches on television, or perhaps even the live updates that are being offered via the Internet, rather than using their leisure time to play online casino games, as they usually would.

Online casinos have offered many worthwhile World Cup promotions and incentives in order to keep their players in the football mode, while playing at their online casinos during this major sporting event. However, even with these generous special offers, it seems that players do not want to miss out on viewing the actual games.

It has been quite clear that sports betting concerns, both online and land based, have had a large increase in wagers since before the FIFA World Cup began, which has continued throughout the football tournament.

Perhaps the reason for the reduced amount of playing at online casinos is because players are using their time to watch matches, or perhaps it is because players are using their online gambling budgets responsibly, and once they have used up their allocated gambling money to place bets on the 2010 FIFA World Cup, they have less funds available to gamble in online casinos.

Whichever it is, it is likely that after the World Cup is over, that things will go back to normal for those who enjoy online gambling, and for the online gambling operations who offer fun and exciting games all year round.
